How to get to the Qiao Family Great Courtyard

The Qiao Family Great Courtyard is located 30 kilometers northeast of the historic city of Pingyao and 54 km south of Taiyuan. It was the residence of the famous financier Qiao Zhiyong during the Qing Dynasty and is admired as a unique artistic treasure.

You can get to the Qiao Family Great Courtyard from both Taiyuan and Pingyao. However, lack of English service is a challenge. You may travel on your own if you can read and speak Chinese, or select a private tour service to enjoy a hassle-free visit.

From Taiyuan

To get there from Taiyuan, you can take a bus going to Pingyao or Qi County (passing through Qiao Courtyard) at Jiannan Taiyuan Bus Station. This station can be reached by buses 611, 838, 23, 830, 619, 961, 201 or 11. It is important to ask the driver to drop you off at Qianjiabao along the way. Getting off the bus at Qianjiabao, the Qiao Family Great Courtyard is within walking distance. Buses leave every 30 minutes and the trip takes about an hour. If you wish to continue the trip to Pingyao Ancient Town after visiting the Qiao Courtyard, a bus can be found near the courtyard exit.

From Pingyao Ancient Town

From Pingyao Ancient Town, you can take a bus to Taiyuan from Pingyao Railway Station Square or Pingyao Bus Station. This bus will pass through Qi Courtyard, and the driver can be requested to drop you off at Qiaojiabao. The trip takes approximately 40 minutes. It is recommended to spend 2-3 hours exploring the Qiao Family Great Courtyard before heading to the next destination or returning to Pingyao.
