When you make a long distance phone call in mainland China, you need to add the number 0 before the phone number. For example, if you call someone in Beijing from Shanghai, you need to dial the number 0, the area code and the phone number. In mainland China, if you want to make an international call (including Hong Kong and Macau), you need to dial the international number 00, then dial the international area code, long distance area code and telephone number.
