Prepare your Suitcase to Travel to China
With the rapid advancement of society and economy, more and more people are attracted to the idea of traveling to China during their free time to explore its beautiful landscapes and rich culture. However, packing for an unfamiliar country can be challenging. Here we offer you some tips on what to pack in your suitcase and how to organize it for your trip to China, with the aim of ensuring a wonderful experience.
What to Pack?
Important Documents
The most important, don't forget to bring your passport (with valid visa), boarding pass, credit card, travel itinerary, contact information, power adapter and cash in Chinese currency. Of course, for greater security, it would be wise to make a copy of important documents.
Clothing and Shoes
First of all, prepare yourself with the right clothing, such as underwear, socks, and appropriate clothing. Choosing the right clothing depends on the season of your trip. In China, there are basically only two seasons each year: summer and winter. Spring and autumn are short in duration, generally three to four weeks. Therefore, depending on the season of your trip, you can take mainly winter or summer clothes. If possible, you can reduce the amount of clothing.
• For summer, it is recommended to wear t-shirts or shirts made of cotton or other breathable materials that can be washed and dried quickly. However, in regions like Yunnan, even in summer, there can be large temperature differences between day and night, so it is necessary to bring some warm clothing.
• In winter, if you go to the south, where the climate is mild, a light coat will suffice, but in high altitude regions and in the north (including Beijing), it will be essential to carry a thick windproof coat, a good wool sweater quality, gloves and a hat that covers the ears.
There are also international markets that sell "original brand" clothing at attractive prices. Although clothing in China is very affordable, it can be easier or more difficult to find suitable clothing depending on a person's build. For example, in Chile, the size is usually S-M, but in China it could be XL. As for plus size shoes, they can also be difficult to find, although stores like Zara or Mango sometimes have stock available. If you have some shoes or boots that fit well, it is advisable to bring them with you.
Daily Use Items
Personal hygiene items, makeup case, nail clippers, sunscreen, sunglasses. Toothbrush, toothpaste and other hygiene items are essential. Regarding liquid products, such as shampoo and body wash, they can be purchased in small supermarkets during the trip, as most hotels provide these items.
Electrical adapter
In China, the standard voltage is 220V and the frequency is 50Hz. Most travelers visiting China will likely need an electrical adapter, a small device that plugs into electrical outlets and allows you to connect electronic devices. Types of plugs and sockets include type A, C and I.
Type A: Mainly used in North and Central America, as well as China and Japan. This plug is only compatible with type A.
Type C: Also known as the European standard plug. This plug is also compatible with types E and F.
Type I: Mostly used in Australia, New Zealand, China, the South Pacific and Argentina. This plug is only compatible with type I.
Charger
Charger must be carried in carry-on baggage and are not included in the carry-on baggage allowance. All electronic devices must be fully charged before leaving on your trip. It is recommended to place them between clothes and organize charging cables. Having a fully charged mobile phone will help alleviate the worry of running out of battery while you're away.
Medications
If you are receiving any medical treatment, we suggest you to pack all necessary medicines for your entire journey because you may not able to acquire some kinds of medicine in China. Although there are international pharmacies where you can find more medicines, sometimes you need a prescription from a Chinese doctor to buy them.
Some medicines, like cannabis-based medicines, might be illegal in China. Please consult your doctor for alternative medications.
Other common medicines like adhesive bandages, cold medicines, anti-diarrheals, are easy to be acquired in China. Your travel guide will prepare them for you or help you to buy some.
