How to Get to Wang Family Courtyard from Pingyao
The Wang Family Courtyard is located in Jingsheng Village, Lingshi County, 35 kilometers (about 22 miles) from Pingyao Ancient Town and 140 kilometers (about 87 miles) from Taiyuan City. With a total area of 150,000 square meters, it is a luxurious residence built between 1762 and 1811 by the descendants of the Wang Family and is also a museum of architectural art with traditional cultural characteristics.
Lack of English service is a challenge for foreigners to travel around Pingyao and Wang Family Courtyard. You may travel on your own if you can read and speak Chinese, or select a private tour service to enjoy a hassle-free visit.

Travel on Your Own (Only for Chinese Speakers)
There are two direct buses leaving from Pingyao Bus Station (平遥汽车站) to Wang Family Courtyard each day. One leaves at 7:10 a.m. from Pingyao Bus Station and return from the courtyard at 11:00 a.m., while the other leaves at 1:20 p.m. and return at 4:30 p.m.
The trip takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes each way.
If you miss the direct tour bus, you can also reach the courtyard via Jiexiu (介休市). There are 19 trains leaving from Pingyao to Jiexiu, and the journey takes between 10 and 25 minutes.
The price of the train ticket is at least 6 RMB. You can also find a bus to Jiexiu from Pingyao Bus Station for a price of about 15 RMB. Upon arrival at Jiexiu Bus Station, you can take a bus to the Wang Family Courtyard. The bus runs every 30 minutes to the courtyard.
You can also share a car to go to Wang Family Courtyard with other people. You can consult the information desk of your hotel or hostel about this.

- In general, most people do not choose to spend the night in the Wang Family Courtyard as it is very close to Pingyao Ancient Town. The average visit time is about 4 hours, so most tourists choose to return to Pingyao Ancient Town after the visit.
