Erhai Lake

Erhai Lake is an alpine lake located in Yunnan Province. The lake is located at an altitude of 1972 meters above sea level. From north to south, it is 40 km long, while from east to west it reaches 7-8 km. It occupies an area of 250 square kilometers. It is located between the Cangshan Mountains to the west and Dali City. In ancient literature, Erhai Lake has been called: Erhe River, Yeyu River, Yeyuze, Mihe River, Kunming Pond, etc., which the plateau lake was formed by the collapse of the West Erhe River, and due to its appearance it is It looks like ears, it is called Erhai (Er is the homophone of ear in Chinese character).

Legend About Erhai Lake

There is an interesting legend about Erhai Lake. The emperor's daughter had just gotten married and then her husband went to war and did not return for more than ten years. People returning said that her husband had died, the princess began to cry day and night, finally her tears turned into Erhai Lake and the princess's life was exhausted. At that time her husband returned, but it was her farewell and her husband was overcome with sadness and solemnly swore out loud that he would become a mountain in order to protect the lake, thus the Cangshan Mountain emerged.
