Everest Base Camp

Everest Base Camp is located in Dingri County, Shigatse Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region, on the Everest Route, at an altitude of 5,200 meters above sea level. As its name indicates, it is a living area established to observe the environment of the core of Everest. There are two base camps on the Chinese side: the West Side Base Camp and the East Side Base Camp, respectively located in Gama Valley, Zaxi Zong Village and Qudang Village, both in Dingri County, in the Tibet Autonomous Region, about 19 kilometers in a straight line from the summit of Everest.

You may have seen countless famous mountains and rivers, but in the eyes of the world, all these mountains and rivers, no matter how imposing and majestic they are, are not comparable to Everest; You may have traveled thousands of kilometers, crossing difficult and muddy paths, but Everest, as the third pole of the world, will remain a dream that you will want to get closer to. Here you can see the tents arranged in a circle on the rectangular banks of the river, with a national flag flying in the center. In addition to Tibetan tents, there are also hotels, cafes, shops and a post office. These facilities provide services to climbers and travelers visiting the base camp. Also, if you drive an ATV, you can drive to the tents for the night.

The main attractions of Everest Base Camp are the Rongbuk Monastery and the Monument at 5200 meters above sea level. Rongbuk Monastery, also known as "Sakya Monastery", is a mixed temple of monks and nuns of the Nyingma sect of Tibet. Due to its altitude of 5154 meters, it is the highest monastery in the world and offers stunning landscapes. The main hall of Rongbuk Monastery has statues of Buddha, such as Sakyamuni and Padmasambhava, in its front.

The coexistence of monks and nuns in a single temple, which at its peak had more than 300 monks and nuns as well as more than 20 halls, reflects the flourishing of the monastery. Currently, there are around 20 monks and nuns. The Monument at 5200 meters above sea level is located about 4 kilometers south of Everest Base Camp. In 2005, after China re-measured the height of Everest, the "Everest Altitude Measurement Monument" was erected at Everest Base Camp. The monument has a height of 2.4 meters, a width of 1.2 meters and a thickness of 0.2 meters, with a base height of 0.95 meters, making the total height of the monument 3.35 meters. The overall shape of the monument is similar to that of Everest, and it is engraved with the words "Everest Altitude Measurement Monument" in three languages: Chinese, Tibetan and English.

In the 148,939,100 square kilometers of land on Earth, there is only one mountain called Everest, whose summit rises to 8844.43 meters above sea level and there is only one Everest Base Camp where the core environment of Everest can be observed.
