Jingshan Park

Jingshan Park is located in Jingshan Qianjie, Xicheng District of Beijing, situated in the central axis of the ancient city. Bordered to the west by the North Sea and to the south by the Shenwu Gate of the Forbidden City, it was the imperial garden of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Jingshan Mountain, in the center of the park, was formed from mounds of earth and was the highest point in the entire city. Jingshan Park was developed from a hill to a large comprehensive garden in the Yuan Dynasty. In the Ming Dynasty, many trees were planted in the mountains, and the pavilions were taken as sacred places to sacrifice to their ancestors. So it became a summer resort for the royal family. Without a doubt, Jingshan Park is also a geomantic shield that protects the palace from evil spirits or northern sandstorms.

Highlights of Jingshan Park

Jingshan Park was built in 1928, with a total area of 23 hectares. In the park there are many attractions such as Qiwang Pavilion, Wufang Quisco, Emperor's Longevity Hall, Yongsi Hall, Peony Garden, etc. At the same time, it gathers 569 varieties of peony at home and abroad, with a total of more than 20,000 plants, covering nine color families and ten types of flowers. In addition, there are more than a thousand pine and cypress trees and other flowers in the garden, which bloom all year round. Thanks to the flower and bonsai exhibition ceremony and various cultural activities, this former royal garden is full of vitality and vigor.

Things to Do in Jingshan Park

As one of the most suitable places to travel in Beijing, you can come to Jingshan Park before 9 am to watch or join the daily activities of the elderly, such as dancing, singing, playing Tai Chi or playing badminton. In April and May, the park bloomed with peonies and tulips, becoming the focus of a popular flower festival. Of course, climb to the top and enjoy the magnificent panorama of the capital and the magnificent landscape of the Forbidden City. The park has three gates: to the south it is directly opposite the north gate of the Forbidden City, to the west it leads to the east gate of Beihai Park, and there are several good cafes outside the east gate.
